Advancing Neonatal Care: Global Collaboration and Local Innovation at COINN 2025

ree

The countdown to the COINN 2025 Conference in Lusaka, Zambia, is on, and we’re thrilled to spotlight two incredible speakers who are advancing neonatal nursing through education, innovation, and collaboration.

Tracey Jones: Driving Global Collaboration in Neonatal Education

Tracey Jones, Non-Executive Director and Chair of the Education Committee at COINN, as a featured speaker at COINN 2025.

In her powerful session, Tracey will explore the transformative impact of global collaboration in neonatal education, highlighting how international partnerships are bridging training gaps and elevating care standards worldwide. Drawing on real-world examples, she’ll share insights on:

  • Collaborative education programs across borders

  • Shared training resources for neonatal nurses

  • Innovative strategies for improving outcomes in diverse healthcare settings

This session is a must for anyone committed to advancing equity in neonatal education and building a connected, well-supported global workforce.

Patrick Too: Saving Newborn Lives Through Simple Interventions

Joining the program is Patrick Too, COINN Non-Executive Director and Regional Director for the African Region, who will share a compelling success story from Kenya.

Patrick’s presentation centres on a quality improvement (QI) initiative aimed at reducing neonatal hypothermia, a major contributor to newborn mortality in low- and middle-income countries. Using the Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) model, Patrick’s multidisciplinary team introduced low-cost changes — including improved temperature checks and warm chain protocols, resulting in:

  • An increase in normothermic neonatal admissions from 51% to 63%

  • Strengthened team-based care practices

  • Practical, replicable strategies for resource-limited settings

This session offers practical, evidence-based insights for frontline providers and nurse leaders alike.
