NURSING LEADERSHIP AND COLLABORATION FOR MATERNAL CHILD AND ADOLESCENTS HEALTH GLOBALLY

RAMELET AS, ACORN M, KENNER C

Introduction: PINCH brings together more than 1200 partner organizations across 10 constituencies to advance women's, children's and adolescents' health globally. Healthcare professional associations (HCPA) is one of the constituencies that has a significant role in supporting advocacy efforts for critical issues. HCPA constituency has its own leadership team with seats limited to three. Historically nursing has had little influence and power within PMNCH, compared to medical associations and midwifery.

Purpose:

  • To reinforce nursing leadership position and influence within the HCPA constituency

Methods:

  • Lobbying

  • ICN teamed up with the international Council of International Neonatal Nurses (founding member of HCPA, ICN affiliate)

  • Joint application for the seat of secretary position within the leadership team

Results:

Closer collaboration ICN & COINN and across disciplines resulted in the following:

  • Position statement in response to Women's Demands for respectful care

  • PMNCH Advocacy brief on Human Resources for Health

  • Active communication of PMNCH other advocacy initiatives through our members

Conclusion: Collaboration within our peers and with other healthcare disciplines is key to make sustainable and impactful changes and make nurses' voice heard at the table of decision makers.
